Whitby, with a population of over 110,000, has drawn buyers from the city for many years in fact the population has nearly doubled in size since the early 1990's with much expansion in the number of homes and other real estate developments. Even though it is a town that has experienced much growth over the last 20 years while still retaining some of that "small town" feel, particularly in the downtown core where businesses still thrive and a facelift has been given to many older buildings.
Through much of this expansion it seemed that Whitby real estate was dominated by large 4 bedroom, two storey homes with double attached garages, but in more recent years real estate has been developments with more diversity. From condo developments to attached homes, Whitby now offers something for every type of buyer.
Why are so many still choosing Whitby. Ontario as the place they call home? There are many reasons from the easy access to the 401 in South Whitby and the access to the 407 from Brooklin (a hamlet of Whitby, where real estate is a little more expensive) to the port and beach front parks and trials, to the reasonable home prices.
Whitby isn't falling behind in infrastructure either with projects in the works or planned for the upgrade of sports complexes, the Go Train station redevelopment, the new Brooklin community centre and library, and the extension of the 407 to run through the top end of the city only add to the reasons why Whitby is a great place to buy real estate.
