Oshawa Homes and Real Estate
The city of Oshawa has had a reputation over the years as a blue collar that GM called home. The 'Shwa they called it and not always affectionately, but this city of over 140,000 inhabitants and home of the Oshawa Generals has been changing for numerous years now and potential home owners are starting to see why real estate here is a great investment. Oshawa offers amazing growth and great home value! In 2007 Oshawa even won a gold medal from the International Awards for most Livable Communities putting Oshawa real estate on the map at an international scale.
Growth, in residential, commercial and public real estate can be seen in many areas of Oshawa from a burgeoning downtown that features many new restaurants, a new 450,000 square foot court room, the GM Centre, and numerous faculties of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, to the thousands of homes being built all over the city, specifically in the north end or "New Oshawa" as some call real estate in that area. Add to that public works projects and the announced expansion of the 407 and it’s easy to see why people are starting to notice the city and are, more than ever, calling it home
Value is even easier to see when you compare the prices of Oshawa real estate to Toronto homes or even other areas of the Durham Region with average sale prices under $250,000 with many homes in good locations available for less.(as always real estate is location, location, location!) This doesn't translate into run down shacks, but real value for homes not much further from downtown Toronto than residential real estate in Brampton.
Oshawa really is a city on the upswing. An exploding downtown, new employment opportunities, room for real estate expansion, new schools being built, a high standard of living and a commutable distance to Toronto have caught the eye of real estate investors in the area as well as first time home buyers weighing the difference in what they can afford in Toronto compared to Oshawa. All in all Oshawa seems poised to lead the region in growth for some time.
